Team behind award-winning Coventry estate agency launches new venture

The team behind an award-winning estate agency in Coventry have launched a new venture – a speciality coffee shop in the heart of the city.

Shortland Coffee has opened its doors in Warwick Row, in the city centre, and welcomed more than 300 customers on its first day.

It is serving up a range of speciality coffee, loose leaf teas and cakes, pastries and savouries supplied by local bakeries and butchers.

The coffee is brewed using Origin coffee, voted best speciality coffee roaster in Europe at the prestigious European Coffee Symposium for the second year running, while the loose leaf tea is supplied by Golden Monkey Tea Company, based in Warwick.

Shortland Coffee was launched by Will and Laura Green, managing director and sales and lettings director at Shortland Horne estate and lettings agency, which outgrew the unit in Warwick Row and relocated to nearby New Union Street.

With a passion for coffee themselves, the couple decided to branch out and transform the unit into speciality café serving the highest quality drinks, cakes and bakes.

Adam Davies, who is from Coventry and has more than six years of experience working as a barista, has been appointed to manage Shortland Coffee, which has eight members of staff.

The coffee shop is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm on Saturdays and 9am to 4pm on Sundays.

Laura said: “There are only a very small handful of high-quality independent coffee shops in and around Coventry, and spending a lot of time in coffee shops ourselves means we saw a gap in the market for somewhere like Shortland Coffee.

“The coffee we serve is incredible, and we are working with some of Coventry and Warwickshire’s best independent businesses who are supplying us with everything from cakes, muffins, blondies and brownies to pastries, speciality sausage rolls and tartlets.

“It’s been extremely positive to be able to create a number of new jobs and we have an excellent team in place, and we’ve already had some wonderful feedback from customers.”

Adam added: “We’ve had a brilliant start since opening and we’re already starting to create a real community here and are seeing regular customers come through the doors.

“We have a great team who provide a really personal service, even for those taking away, and we’ve developed really strong relationships with our suppliers.

“We cater for all dietary requirements, offering dairy-free milk options including oat, soya, almond and coconut, as well as gluten free, dairy free and vegan food options.

“We also offer a loyalty card, NUS student discount and are running a special offer for those over 60 during December.

“We can’t wait to welcome even more customers as we continue to establish ourselves in the city.”
